Websites for service businesses.

If what you sell is your own time and skill, across a handful of towns you can drive between, your website has one task: turn a stranger's search into a booked visit or a quote request. I build custom-coded sites for exactly that, and you see your homepage free before you spend anything.

What this kind of site has to do

Three jobs a service business site cannot skip.

01

Prove you are real before they get in touch

People are about to let you into their home, onto their driveway or close enough to do their nails. They look for a named person, photos of actual jobs and reviews they can trace back to Google. Stock pictures of smiling strangers read as something to hide, so your own work goes first.

02

Say where you go, and where you don't

A cleaner based in Didcot gains nothing from an enquiry in Swindon. Listing the towns and villages you genuinely cover saves you polite refusals, and it is the same information Google leans on when someone nearby searches for what you do.

03

Make the next step take seconds

Tap to call, a WhatsApp button, or a short form that asks only what you need to reply properly: postcode, the job or treatment, a preferred day. Every field you add loses someone typing with one thumb between other things.

How customers choose somebody to come round

Hiring a person is not like buying a kettle. There is nothing to inspect beforehand, so the decision rests on signals: does this look like a proper outfit, do other locals rate them, will they actually reply? The usual route starts with a search on a phone, glances at a few Google Business Profiles, then taps through to two or three websites to check the things a profile cannot show well. Whoever answers first, clearly and politely, tends to get the work.

That makes the site a confirmation step rather than a brochure. It should settle the doubts left over from the profile: what exactly you do, roughly what it costs, which areas you serve and when you are available. 12:47 Beauty publishes its full treatment menu with prices, so a new client arrives already knowing what they will pay. Pangbourne Plumbing can't price a leak in advance, so it says plainly that quotes are free with no call-out fee. Both approaches remove the question that otherwise stops people getting in touch.

Quotes, bookings and the diary you already keep

The real decision for most owners is how enquiries should arrive. A sole trader who answers the phone between jobs rarely needs a booking engine. What helps far more is a form that gathers the right details up front, so you can reply with a price or a time slot rather than three follow-up questions. A fencing contractor wants the type of job and the area; a driving instructor wants to know if the learner has a provisional licence and whether they need manual or automatic.

Appointment work is different. Beauty clients, therapy clients and learners often prefer to see what is free and pick a time. If you already run a booking app you like, the site sends people straight into it. If you want deposits taken at the point of booking and reminders that go out without you, that is a booking system rather than a website, and I cover it under booking websites.

One more thing worth deciding early: whether you want a page for each town you work in. A single services page can rank in your home town. Reaching the next few towns along usually needs a page written for each, which is the main reason owners move up to Own Your Area.

What I build for you

Included in a service business site.

Where this stops

Get Customers does not include online payments, deposits, customer logins or a page for every town you cover. Written copy, a structured quote or booking form and up to fifteen pages come with Own Your Area. A full booking system with deposits, reminders and staff diaries is Booksmith or a Custom build. I work from the photos you send, so start taking them on your next few jobs.

Proof, not promises

Service businesses already live.

Paul Lawrence of AWGS Fencing counted 8 enquiries in the first week through the site's quote form. 12:47 Beauty has had 386 Google clicks since launch (Search Console, to 30 Sep 2026), and Maria counts 78 new clients by her own tally.

Pricing

Get Customers is the usual fit.

Most people selling their own time need five clear pages, their reviews and a fast way to get in touch, which is exactly Get Customers at £250 plus £40 a month. Move to Own Your Area when you want a page per town and a proper quote or booking form. Prefer nothing upfront? Get Customers is also £0 to build and £65 a month for a 12-month minimum, then £40. Both fixed tiers carry the 90-day page-one promise.

Common questions

What service businesses ask me.

How much does a website for a service business cost?

Get Customers is £250 to build plus £40 a month for up to five pages, with hosting, domain, SSL and updates included in the monthly. If you want up to fifteen pages, written copy and a structured quote or booking form, Own Your Area is £500 plus £60 a month. Either way your homepage preview is free and comes before any payment.

Should I put my prices on my website?

If you sell a fixed menu, such as treatments, lessons or an hourly clean, yes: listed prices stop people messaging just to ask, and the enquiries you do get are from people who have already accepted the cost. If every job is different, give a starting figure or explain how you quote, for example whether a visit to price the job is free.

Do I need online booking on my site?

Usually not at the start. Most sole traders do well with a short form, tap-to-call and WhatsApp, provided they reply quickly. If you already use a booking app, the site links straight into it. If you need deposits, automatic reminders or several staff diaries, that is Booksmith, the booking system I build and run, or a Custom build.

Will the site work alongside my Google Business Profile?

Yes, and it should. Get Customers includes setting up your Google Business Profile so the name, phone number, hours and service area match the site exactly. The site then carries your Google reviews, and the profile links back to pages that explain what you do in more detail than a profile allows.

How long does it take to get a site live?

The free homepage preview arrives within 48 hours of you telling me about the business. Once you approve it and send your photos, prices and service details, the finished site is usually live within about a week.

Your homepage first. Your decision after.

Tell me what you do and where you work. I'll send a free preview of your homepage within 48 hours, and if it isn't right for you, you owe nothing.
